GELTUS Frequently Asked Questions

 1. What is GELTUS?

 GELTUS Conference has become a tradition of Gazi Faculty of Education, English Language Teaching Department with participants from across Turkey. Aiming to expand the boundaries of everything related to English Language Teaching (ELT) this year, GELTUS provides a stage for undergraduate students whose devotion enriches our conference by presenting new items and discoveries made by their research. As per our motto, “A conference organised by students for students”, GELTUS Conference aims to reach a wide variety of undergraduate students who are willing to share their experience with their fellow teacher candidates.
 

 2. What are the GELTUS topics?

 Presentation topics for GELTUS should cover at least one of the following areas:

  • Classroom management in English Language Teaching (ELT)
  • ELT Methodology
  • ELT Curriculum and Materials Development
  • English for Specific/Academic Purposes
  • English as a Lingua Franca
  • ICT in ELT
  • Distance Education
  • Individual Differences in ELT
  • Intercultural Communication
  • Pragmatics
  • Psycholinguistics
  • Second Language Acquisition
  • Sociolinguistics
  • Teaching English to Young/Very Young Learners
  • Testing and Assessment in ELT
  • Using Literature in ELT

 3. Participants and Presenters

 If you have a study that you would like to share, you can apply to be a presenter at the conference, or you can be a participant and be part of the audience. You can apply for both positions for the conference, however you can only get a certificate for one of them. If you are chosen to be a presenter, you can not get the certificate given to participants. 

 4. Applying as a presenter

 In order to be a presenter during the event, you should have a study that you can apply with that covers at least one of the topics. After you are through with your study you can send an abstract written according to the abstract submission guideline (Abstract Submission). You can send your submission file by mail to geltusconference@gmail.com. Your abstract will then be evaluated anonymously by the reviewers. If your submission is accepted, you will be notified until the specified deadline. By presenting your submission on the day the conference takes place, you will be given a presenter certificate.

 5. Applying as a participant

 In order to be a participant you should fill the participant submission form. You should specify:

  • Your name & surname
  • An e-mail that we can contact you

 In order to be able to get certificate; 
You have to join the Zoom session with the same name-surname and e-mail that you have applied with. 
You should be present during the %60 of the whole conference. For example; if the conference takes around 300 minutes, that means you should at least be present for 180 minutes. Otherwise, you will not be provided with a certificate. 

 6. Attending the conference

You will be provided with Zoom session information via mail when the time comes so don’t forget to check your mails as the conference date gets closer. Also, don’t forget to follow GELTUS Instagram account, we will be keeping you updated.

 7. Why should I join GELTUS?

During GELTUS conferences, presenters will point on interesting topics and show their studies based on recent research and ideas. You will be able to learn interesting ideas shaped around ELT. As a presenter, this will let you showcase your study in front of a wide audience and will be a valuable experience for you which you can also showcase in your resume.
